Detect a LiteSpeed Backup file?

In the course of our work we deal with folks who use LiteSpeed and those who don't. Unfortunately there is no consistency in the file suffix naming that our backup suppliers use so that we can consistently distinguish the LiteSpeed backup files from, for example, standard SQL Server backup files. Is there a way to programmatically detect a pattern or signature within a LiteSpeed backup that would make it self-aware to our program?

At this time we're just trying LiteSpeed and failing to determine if the backup is compatible.

Alternatives to LiteSpeed

If you are after backup compression or faster backups, there are some better and more cost effective alternatives to LiteSpeed, including HyperBac for SQL Server which does have a means to distinguish compressed backups from uncompressed ones, check out the SQL Server Backup Compression Shootout Article in SQL Server Magazine

Umm, I think you guys are looking a the totally wrong company. This is LiteSpeed Web server not LiteSpeed for SQL Server (http://www.quest.com/litespeed-for-sql-server/)
