how to install lua support in OLS 1.6+ now that configure is no longer used

In OLS < 1.60 you ran ./configure --with-lua=yes or --with-lua=/usr/local/include or wherever the headers are as documented here, but in 1.6+ configure is no longer used. I hope Lua scripting has not been deprecated. Can anyone solve this great mystery?
