As for loosing data... please, consider using Continuous Data Protection, like the R1SOFT product... http://www.r1soft.com/
We have been using it for a couple of years now - and it allows backups every 15 minutes (more than that is possible, but perhaps not needed), and adds almost NO server load when doing the backups.
I have no benefit from suggesting R1SOFT, I only suggest it, as I know it works!
Hope this recent issue, Oct 3rd 2010, did not result in any data loss.
